Take Control Of Your Life And Take Yourself Where You Want To Be

I had excellent experience and great qualifications, yet my attempts at job hunting had been fruitless.  In my early thirties, I felt that I should be powering forward with my career.  Instead, after a very successful period working overseas, I came back to…..…nothing.  My new job wasn’t fulfilling, and I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do next.  I applied for many positions, without luck.  Forget not being offered the jobs, I wasn’t even being asked for interviews!  I knew I had a problem with my CV, but deep down I lacked the confidence to trust in myself.

My wife and I discussed the potential benefits versus the cost of taking on a career consultant, and balanced those against simply having my CV written by an expert.  We decided to go for the consultancy approach – there are a lot of people out there who will promise miracle results.

So it was one April that we signed, and the hard work began. I approached the experience hoping to achieve two key goals:

• I wanted to gain a better understanding of what job I would love to do, and;
• I wanted to go out and win that job!

I could take you through the entire process, but that would take some of the fun out of it for you.  Needless to say that by June I did indeed find a great job that I love, and I also negotiated a package that was beyond belief, even for an eternal optimist like me.  Along the way I turned down promotion, was offered roles in completely unrelated fields, and ended up staying with the same company (and no, it wasn’t for the money, although it helps).  If you are reading this and wondering what you would like to do each day to earn a crust, or how you can possibly move into that dream position, I recommend you think no longer.

Take control of your life, and take yourself where you want to be.

Best wishes,

K.B.
